Dividend Income
Dividend metrics are of little relevance in my investment decision making process. My interest lies in an investment's TOTAL potential investment return. In many cases, the preferred means by which a company can allocate its capital is to:
- reinvest in the business
- repurchase shares
- merger or acquire
Nevertheless, I track dividend income and make this information accessible here.
The dividend income received in December is:
- 'Core' accounts: ~$ 1,767 CDN and ~$ 9,856 USD
- 'Side' accounts: ~$ 274 CDN and ~$ 1,569 USD
The dividend income received in 2024 is:
- 'Core' accounts: ~$ 16,085 CDN and ~$ 52,244 USD
- 'Side' accounts: ~$ 13,522 CDN and ~$ 17,725 USD
versus what was generated in 2023.
- 'Core' accounts: ~$ 22,661 CDN and ~$ 41,574 USD
- 'Side' accounts: ~$ 26,534 CDN and ~$ 23,609 USD
The drop in dividend income relative to 2023 is because I made various changes to the FFJ Portfolio in mid-2024 based on advice from our tax accountants. Our circumstances are such that companies with attractive dividend metrics hold little appeal. As a result, many of our holdings may have little appeal to investors seeking income.
